Information on Possible Radiation Exposure

Many people have contacted me due to concern of possible radiation fallout here in California.

From officials we are told that the U.S. will be safe, but since we do not know what will happen in Japan in the coming days and weeks, I think it is better to be prepared than not.

In this issue you will find some good information and resources on how you can protect yourself and your family IF radiation is detected here. Scroll down to find a link of a map that shows you radiation levels in real time.

Let’s all not give in to fear, but take the necessary steps to get our emergency kits ready.

In health,

Radiation Protection

Right now we don’t know if the U.S. will be hit with dangerous radiation.

We know that a nuclear meltdown in Japan could happen, and if so, chances are not high that we will get high amounts of radiation here.

But as said earlier, it is better to be prepared.

So here are my recommendations

Potassium Iodide:

Potassium Iodide protects not just the thyroid gland from taking up radioactive Iodine, but also other glands in your body. When taking Iodine in high amounts, it saturates the body and no radioactive Iodine can bind. It is important to know that in case of emergency, Iodine needs to be taken every 24 hours, since it leaves the body within that time.

The official recommendations are 130mg per day but only if you live close to ground zero, so we will not need this high amount of Iodine.

Since Iodine taken in high amounts can be dangerous, it is not advised that you take it right now but wait until we know more about the situation.

Here is a good website that answers questions about Potassium Iodide:

FAQ on Potassium Iodide

You are probably aware that there was a big run on Potassium Iodide tablets in the U.S. and it is pretty much sold out everywhere.

I just called up Standard Process, the supplement company that I am working with, and I am happy to let you know that they have Iodine tablets still available.

The product is called “Prolamine Iodine” and comes in 90 tablets. Every tablet contains 3 mg of Iodine, so one bottle contains a total of 270mg of Iodine.

I can order for you as early as Monday, so if you want to get some, send me an email with your address and let me know how many bottles you want. The bottles will be delivered via UPS to your door and you can pay by Paypal using my email address. Please contact me soon if you would like to go this route as I cannot guarantee how long Standard Process will have them in stock.

It is also important to know that Iodine only protects you against radioactive Iodine, but not against radioactive Cesium and Plutonium, which are used in the Japanese nuclear power plant as well. However, it is highly unlikely Plutonium will make it to the US as it is a much heavier element.

Since you need to build up your Iodine levels before being exposed to radioactivity, it is best to do this in a safe way by eating foods rich in Iodine.

If you want to prepare, this is also a great time to stock up on foods that can help prevent radiation damage:

  • Cruciferous vegetables like Cauliflower, Cabbage, Broccoli, Cabbage and Kale
  • Kelp
  • Seaweed
  • Miso soup
  • Chlorophyll containing food like Chlorella
  • Foods high in fiber
  • Antioxidant rich food like Acai and Blueberries, Vitamin A and C
  • Omega 3 Fatty Acids
  • Kombucha Tea
  • Coconut Products

Standard Process sells a detox product, which is called “SP Complete” and is part of the Purification Program. It contains all the detoxifying foods in highly bio-available form and is a convenient and easy way to nourish your body with these essential nutrients. This product can be purchased as part of the purification program or by itself.

Send me an email with your address if you want me to order you some.

In case you want to prepare even more, I advise you to get duct tape to seal up your apartment, surgical masks to protect you from inhaling radioactive dust particles and to stock up on water and foods that will last for about 2 weeks. Everyone living in an earthquake area should have these items at home as part of an earthquake kit.

If the worst case happens and if we get a high amount of radioactivity here, it is best to stay indoors and seal up your apartment. From the Chernobyl disaster we learned that people who tried leaving the area when radiation was the highest were poisoned the most. So stay indoors and wait until the worst has passed.

Again, I do not believe this will happen, but I just wanted to inform you so that you can stay on top of things.

    Hi All,

I got many emails from you asking about the Potassium Iodide. For general information, one bottle costs $ 11,50 plus $ 9 for shipping.

If you want me to order you some, send me an email with your postal address and indicate how many bottles you need.

I will have to check with the company on Monday to see how much they have left in stock and will get back to you shortly.

And as a reminder: DO NOT TAKE THE PILLS UNLESS INDICATED!!

They can pose serious health risks and at this point it is NOT advised to take them.

    Blessings,
    Katharina
